Stuart Lightbody
Lic.Ac., B.Ac., M.Ac., Dip.Ac.(China), Member British Acupuncture Council, Member Royal Society Public Health & Hygiene (1968).

Stuart has been practising traditional 5 element acupuncture since 1979, having qualified from the College of Traditional Acupuncture, Royal Leamington Spa. Since then he has carried out further training, obtaining a Bachelors qualification in 1982 and a Masters in 1984. Throughout these 7 years training he studied under Professor J.R. Worsley who is considered the foremost teacher of this style of Acupuncture in the West. Stuart has also studied at the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Chengdu, China and attended Post Graduate training in San Francisco, USA. He taught 5 Element Acupuncture for 12 years and is the main Acupuncture contributor to the Complete A-Z of Male Health, published in 1995, the Hamlyn Encyclopaedia of Alternative Health and a book on Child Health Care published by Hamlyn. He has appeared on Yorkshire Television with Dr Miriam Stoppard and twice on Ecuadorian television discussing acupuncture and preventive medicine.

His main practice is in Halifax but he also practises in Keighley, York and London.

He has recently published his own book on 5 Element Healthcare, called The Ancient Chinese Oracle of Health . This book covers the origins of medicine in China, discusses the concept of the human body as a Kingdom with an Emperor and 11 supporting Ministers and includes a simple questionnaire to assess a person's balance in regard to each of the 5 Elements, with recommendations for health maintenance and disease prevention. This 64-page book furthermore explains how diagnosis works, and covers subjects such as the twelve pulses, observation of the colour, sound, emotion and odour of the patient, dreams, seasons, physiognomy, and comments on the effect of childhood traumas on a person’s energy balance. It briefly touches on more serious energy blocks and how these can be recognised. It is illustrated with various diagrams including 3 Ming Dynasty Acupuncture Point Charts dating back around 600 years and explains, in simple terms, how Acupuncture works and what it can best treat. This book is available from the Clinic by sending a cheque made payable to the Halifax Clinic of Natural Medicine for £10, which includes postage and packing. Please ensure your name and address are clearly marked and, if possible, include a contact telephone number.

Although his approach is nearly always a holistic one, whereby the person, not the symptoms, are treated he also treats acute conditions such as Sciatica, Neck, Shoulder and Back problems, Addictions including nicotine cravings, weight problems, difficulty in conceiving, morning sickness and delayed birth time situations.

As well as Acupuncture, Stuart uses Moxibustion (the application of a heating herb), cupping, ear acupuncture, basic herbal remedies including the Bach Flower Essences, dietary and life style advice.

Patients who are members of healthcare funds such as Leeds Hospital Fund, HSA, Bradford Sovereign and Westfield, etcetera, are able to claim for part of their acupuncture treatments.
