OSTEOPATHYOsteopathy regards the patient as a whole person and specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. In addition, visceral osteopathy can cause relief from a wide range of problems affecting organs such as the stomach, intestines, liver and gall bladder. This gentle approach can also help with emotional and psychological issues.
Osteopathic treatment involves the gentle manipulation of the body to bring relief and improve quality of life for patients.
Osteopaths recognise that many of the problems of the growing body may stem from structural or mechanical factors which can inhibit healthy functioning, or worsen underlying conditions.
Because the treatment is non-invasive and does not involve the use of any drugs it is particularly welcome in the treatment of children, as there are no concerns about side effects or interference with other medical treatment.
Treatment is shown to be effective with a wide range of childhood conditions including sleep problems, colic, digestive problems, allergies, asthma, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, dyslexia, ADHD, chronic immune problems, bedwetting, and more.
All the body’s systems are interconnected. Where tension occurs in any one area, the effect will continue through the body, affecting other systems. Osteopathy works with the body as a whole, and isn’t restricted to isolated areas. Imbalances in the body throw up symptoms in one system or another, so redressing the balance normalises the whole. Relieving tension in the hip, for example, can enable a baby to sit up more strongly, and alleviate irritation in the gut, which improves digestion.
CRANIAL OSTEOPATHY Cranial osteopathy is especially useful in the treatment of babies and children, with, for example, feeding, sleeping or behavioural difficulties. By working with the body's own cranial rhythm the treatment can restore inbalances that may trigger conditions such as back pain, headache and joint pain.
PREGNANCY & NEW MOTHERSDuring pregnancy the body goes through changes to itself from hormonal to physical changes. Osteopathic treatment can help with back pain and other aches and pains attributed to pregnancy. It can also help to make the labour and birth easier to cope with.
Although a degree of physical demand during birth is normal for a woman in labour, it is essential that there is a return to normal function, without restriction, afterwards. It isn’t uncommon for women to experience problems after birth, from low back ache to headaches, stress incontinence to pain on intercourse, all of which can be addressed more easily shortly after the birth allowing the body to revert to its well-functioning self, and avoiding long term problems.
